Sometimes you no longer need acute hospital care but still need skilled nursing or rehabilitation before returning home. Fredonia Regional Hospital’s Swing Bed Program provides that next step in your recovery.
You can continue your care at FRH after a hospital stay here or transfer from another hospital, subject to admission review and available services.
Swing Bed Services
- Skilled nursing care: Nursing assessment, treatments, and support during recovery.
- IV therapy: Ordered IV medications and treatments.
- Skin and wound care: Wound assessment, sterile dressing changes, and treatment.
- Rehabilitation: Therapy to help you regain strength, mobility, and daily living skills.
- Care coordination: Help understanding your care plan, communicating with your healthcare team, and reviewing insurance requirements.
- Discharge planning: Planning with you and your family for your return home or another appropriate setting, including referrals for continued support.
Services depend on your medical needs, provider orders, and availability.
Hospital services close at hand
During your stay, your provider can order supporting hospital services such as laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and respiratory therapy.

Admission and Insurance
Your provider and our Swing Bed Coordinator will review your skilled care needs and eligibility. Medicare and other insurance plans have coverage requirements. Our staff can help explain your benefits, authorization requirements, and potential out-of-pocket costs.
